Ghost Tours and Sightings In Brisbane

Brisbane is not only the home for the UFO Research Queensland, but according to International Haunted Placed Directory, it is also one of the most haunted cities is the world.

According to the directory, there are ghosts living in the hallways of Brisbane institutions, such as Old Government House, Parliament House, Brisbane Arcade and Brisbanes City Hall. In City Hall there has been a ghost figure of an elderly lady wandering the staircases, and a maintenance man, has been seen going up and down the lift.

Jack Sim, a local historian, conducts tours of Brisbanes most historic haunted sites including the Boggo Road Gaol, Toowong cemetery and Dutton Park Cemetery, which is Brisbane’s oldest burial ground. Jack recounts stories of Brisbanes ghostly and murderous history and if you are lucky you can spot ghostly apparitions and white lights.

To start your own Brisbane ghoul hunt, begin at the oldest inhabited building in Queensland, the Commissariat Stores on the banks of the Brisbane River in William Street. It was built in 1829 and is home to some gruesome reminders of Brisbane’s past: a jar containing two shriveled convict fingertips, the old hanging beam of Boggo Road Gaol and lots of great stories.

If you would prefer to conduct your own ghost hunt, here is what you could do. Start out at the oldest inhabited building in Queensland, Commissariat Stores, on the banks of the Brisbane River on William Street. Built in 1829, it is home to gruesome reminders of Brisbanes past, such as a jar containing two shriveled convict fingertips, the old hanging beam of Boggo Road Gaol and lots of great stories. Newstead House, Brisbanes oldest surviving residence, built in 1846, has been said to have several ghosts including a 12 year old girl whose favourite pastime is rearranging the shoes in one of the rooms. The Breakfast Creek Hotel, where a past publican allegedly fell out of the window, is said to have him frequent original parts of the hotel and The Plough Inn at Southbank is said to have two ghosts wandering inside its walls.

Catching a ferry across to St Helena Island on Moreton Bay, you can then join a nightly ghost tour of the convict cemetery. Here you will witness the retelling stories of those who never left the Island. Lastly, go deep into Brisbanes murderous past by going on the Mayne Inheritance Tour. Based on a true story about the Mayne family, one of Brisbanes most influential families with a murder in the midst.
