Mysteries Of Egypt: This documentary takes you way back in time, to Egypt, in the time of the Pharaohs. In 1922 King Tutankhamen’s grave was found, opening many windows to the past. Egypt is one of the key parts of the history of the world’s ancient civilizations.
Def by Temptation: Southern divinity scholar visits his older sibling in N.Y.C., just in time for the newer to get engaged with a provocative succubus who preys on gentlemen in bars. All-black sleeper is incredibly trendy, assisted no end by the photography of Spike Lee’s one time cameraman, Ernest Dickerson. Cast includes Cynthia Bond, Bill Nunn, Melba Moore, and Samuel L. Jackson. (95 minutes, 1990)
The Competition: 2 youthful pianists, contending for the identical treasure, fall in love. Lilies of the Field: A “little” film that made excellent, triumphing Poitier an Oscar as handyman who helps construct chapel for Skala and German-talking nuns. Cast includes Sidney Poitier, Lilia Skala, Lisa Mann, Isa Crino, and Stanley Adams. (93 minutes, 1963)
Bugs Bunny’s Third Film: Yet a new collection of Warner Bros. cartoons, with more superior-than-normal connecting material. Some excellent shows with Daffy Duck, Tweety and Sylvester, plus Ditch Jones’ classic “One Frog Late afternoon” minus the punch-line, although these are still more superior seen as individual briefs, and not as an ersatz characteristic film.
